6th Annual Veterans Leadership luncheon
At the 6th Annual Veterans Leadership luncheon (11/3/14), original Tuskegee Airmen O. Lawton Wilkerson and Julian Johnson provide bookmarks for the keynote speaker at the event, Dan O’Shea.
Mr. O’Shea was a Special Ops Navy SEAL and is an expert in hostage situations and counter-insurgency situations. This annual event sponsored by Veterans of America of Illinois, provides an opportunity to honor and recognize our service members while also highlighting the good works being done by this organization to support the veterans in our community.

Tuskegee Airmen Visit Brookfield Zoo for Veterans Day Celebration
On Veteran’s Day this year, the Chicago Zoological Society (CZS) hosted a special ceremony at Brookfield Zoo’s Discovery Center to honor the Tuskegee Airmen (America’s first black military aviators) and veterans of the 82nd Airborne Division, who participated in the liberation of the concentration camps during World War II
During the ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, members of the Jesse White Tumblers performed along with Precision Drill Teams from the Hubbard High School Army JROTC and the District 131 Aurora East Navy JROTC.
Karen Yarbrough of the Cook County Recorder of Deeds was on hand to provide information on the Cook County Military and Veterans Discount Program. This new initiative features a network of businesses that are offering money-saving discounts and incentives to Cook County veterans and active-duty military as a way of showing gratitude for their service.
