I am so excited about your organization, its history, but even more its future. I am employed in the Public Affairs Office of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. The late Tuskegee Airman George Taylor retired from our organization. Knowing about Mr. Taylor and a young Lieutenant named Kenyatta Ruffin (Church member)has sparked such a fire in me. I am attempting to spread that fire to the young women of our community. We will soon be studying about the Tuskegee Airmen and Bessie Coleman, but I would like to follow-up our study with several visits to the monthly Rally you have at the airport. There is nothing commensurate with hands-on learning. To date, we have approximately seven young women that have expressed an interest in aviation. Please let me know if it is possible for us to attend the Rally the second Saturday in February.

I am a 6th and 7th grade science teacher in Sauk Village, IL. Our classes voted to spend time this month studying famous African Americans in science. We have been spending time investigating various inventors and scientists and I wanted to culminate with studying about the Tuskegee Airmen. I recently found out that there is a Chicago Chapter, and that there is a program for underprivileged youth interested in aviation. Over half of our school population is considered "low income" and academic motivation continues to drop each year. I am trying to find an innovative way to inspire the kids to take charge of their own learning, to activate the desire in them to want to learn, and I have noticed that as we have discussed various topics this month, that many of the students have responded well to discussion re. the Tuskegee Airmen and what they accomplished, despite an overwhelming racist majority. I'm writing to ask how to go about arranging a visit with some of the original Tuskegee Airmen.

The school's number is (708) 758-1900. School or email is prob the best route b/c my cell has been scratchy lately. I look forward to talking with you.

my son is doing a research paper on the tuskegee airmen and this site will provide him with wonderful information. the more i learn about the tuskegee airmen the more it angers me that this incredible group of men and women have been ignored in the history books and the more i want to help share their story so that everyone knows about their dedicated service to our country despite the racism and segregation they faced. my respect and gratitude goes out to all those that served and serve our country.
